What happened

Talkie is a character-chat app where users browse or create personas, from licensed-feeling fan characters to original roleplay scenarios, and chat with them by text. The app's own site, talkie-ai.com, as retrieved on 16 September 2026, describes a 'Discover' feed of user-made Characters, a 'Create a Talkie' tool, a paid tier called Talkie+, and account controls for exporting or deleting a user's data. At the foot of the page, the site states plainly: 'Powered by MiniMax.'

What the documents show

MiniMax's own site confirms the relationship from the other direction, listing Talkie alongside MiniMax Code, MiniMax Design and MiniMax Audio as one of the company's AI-native products worldwide. MiniMax describes itself as 'founded in early 2022' with a mission 'to co-create intelligence with everyone,' building foundation models that its consumer products, Talkie included, then draw on. Neither site, as retrieved, states where Talkie's user data is stored or which entity is the data controller for users outside China; that information, if it exists, sits in a separate privacy policy not reviewed here.

The mechanism
